Right now i'm in the process of incubating pheasant eggs and i do have a couple of the eggs that are a little bit dirty.  I understand that you really shouldn't  put a dirty egg into the incubator, but you really dont know if the egg will hatch or not.  Pheasants lay their eggs on the ground in the dirt, and they seem to hatch nicely, so i dont see why i should just throw out an egg because i find dirt on it.  Eggs arent windex clean , their is going to be a time when eggs get dirty, but they still hatch

Thanks!!!

When people talk of dirty eggs, it is (generally) doo doo they speak of.
Ones with some dirt is lighty brushed off by hand & is OK for a hatching egg.
The others are best tossed, unless a rare species. You can then use a "soft" sand paper to clean & use.
The reason you do not want doo doo eggs, they are full of pores. The "bad stuff" gets in them & will spoil the egg duing incubation, making wee bombs.

I don't sell eggs so Im curious too. Can't you clean the eggs(doo doo eggs too) with a wet rag without any ill effects? I often receive eggs that are nice and clean so I assume the sellers clean them.
