Title: Plastic coated poultry netting for flight pen ?
Post by: ronnie r on September 17, 2010, 02:38:41 PM
Im getting my materials ready to build a 18 by 60 Flight pen. It will be the hoop style with a wire floor. My question is.....Is plastic dipped one inch poultry netting ok to place over the hoops for the flight pen. I understand that most people I have talked to use netting. I have about ten rolls of the plastic coated chicken wire left over from building a 5 acer rabbit pen several years ago and dont want to have to purchase any netting unless its necessary. I plan to use tarps to cover the top of the pen as well as having a house on one end. Thanks,

I've been looking for that type of wire for a couple years... do you have contact info for where you got it ?

I don't see any problems with your plans.

Reeves, I found it in a rabbit hunting magazine and had it shipped to Bennett Supply Co. in Albany Ga. I will see if I can find a old magazine and let you know.

I wouldn't recommend any hardwire to be used in a flight pen that is above 4 feet from the floor or ground. Flight pens are made to get birds flight ready.

The reason for a non metallic netting is so they DO NOT injure them selves when they either hit the opposite side of the flight pen or go straight up.

Hardwire will cause the birds to more then likely break their necks.

Looks like they use all welded wire. (I've seen many sites like that)

Hard to find the PVC coated "poultry" netting, that is 6' x 100 to 150' , with 1" hex holes.

Actually glad I didn't have it on my aviaries when the hail hit . Would have been a very expensive to replace.
