I am looking for advice on quality game bird feed for quail chicks, medicated or not, protein levels. I recently lost over half of my new birds feeding Purina Quail starter. I am not sure if it was the feed, I found out after the fact that the feed was old and possibly moldy. Purina promised to open a complaint file and pick up a sample to analyze but never did anything.
I want to understand what happened so that I can correct the process for next year. I can by lower protein feed 21% non medicated at a local farm store. I have used this with reasonable success for several years but I think I could improve the quality of my birds with better feed.
 What are you feeding?
