This place is going to the birds!

In an effort to get this forum back on track talking about quail, I was wondering what equipment or tricks folks use to keep the birds water unfrozen in the winter.  I did a search and the newest thing I could find was from 2010.  Wondering what might be new in the past two winters.

I use electric heated dog bowls for my quail and pheasants.I have tried the heated poultry waters but here in Iowa they will freeze up in extreme cold weather.

Thanks for the reply.  How do you keep the birds from fowling  the water in these dog bowls?

You might try elevating the bowl so they have to reach over the edge.

Or just give them enough water for the day and change it out the next day in the water founts that you have.

I have 5gal buckets that I use for my birds and elevated off the ground with 6" concrete blocks. In the winter, I will only put 3 gallons of water in the buckets. I change out the buckets every day. 3 gallons per bucket seems to be about right for my water stations and they are empty or just about. I have 10 water stations.

I have to give fresh water every day and rinse out the bowls kind of a pain but the birds get fresh water that is not frozen
