I'm a newbie here, and to the upland hunting world, but I'm jumping in with both feet. We have an English Setter reserved in an upcoming litter. I have already done the search for dog training books on here, but the info is sparse and rather spread out, so I thought that starting a thread with just training books as its purpose would be a good idea. Incidentally, I have trained several dogs already in other disciplines, just no pointers or flushers (and I train horses professionally). So, what are ya'lls favorite bird dog books and why?

Thanks,

Daniel

A few of my favorite bird dog training books are:

1- "The Bird Dog Training Manual" by Dave Walker of http://www.davewalkerdogs.com

2- "Bird Dog" by Ben O Williams (Simple hunting dog methods).

3- "Gun Dog" by Richard Wolters.

I also like Bill Tarrant's dog training books.

And a great DVD is the Perfect Start, Perfect Finish series.

I highly recommend the video / DVD series, Perfect Start and Perfect Finish by Perfection Kennels.  I've trained two dogs to AKC Master Hunter titles from what I learned in the video.  The dog pictured is a CH & MH.

Why?  IT WORKS!
