Title: coturnix quail lifespan?
Post by: birdlover on April 28, 2007, 04:39:28 PM
hi,
i read that coturnix quails only live for 2 years.  Is this true, and if it is, do others quails live this long to?

I know nothing of the coturnix. Although, I've read that the life expectancy for Northern Bobwhites is 7 months in the wild and up to 7 years in captivity.

would you think that by feeding the coturnix quails  a good diet with fruits, vegetables, insects etc  would extend their lifespan?

I've only raised coturnix for meat so have not had them longer then when they matured.

But I think when they say 2 years....they meant coturnix prime for health, breeding etc. Im sure they just don't croak at 2 years. heheh ;)

Hi,

So in other words, the coturnix rarely die of old age, is this right?

No Im saying they probably live longer then 2 years. Probably around 3-4+ years. But 1-2 years is thier prime for health and laying eggs. Eventually, they will die from old age. Don't quote me though. ;)

hi,

how many of these  coturnix did you have, what did you feed them, and how big was the cage?  This could be why your quails lived so long!

Thanks!!

You only need one profile, not two... quit this stuff. Also, 6'x12' isn't NEAR enough for 500 coturnix. You are so cool now that your post count is in the high seventies...  Please continue posting pointless replies and topics so we can be ever more amazed at how quickly you can think of things to type up...
