Movable Cage

I was thinking about building a cage (about 2 feet high) and setting it on the ground sometime this coming spring. I hope to put a pair of bobwhites in it and let them be to see if they will try and make their own nest and hatch. Before they would begin to lay eggs, how long do think they could stay in one patch of vegetation before beating it down too much. The pen will probably be 6x6.
