Last Decemeber Oklahoma was hit with yet another ice storm.  Not only where we without electric for a week, but once again we lost thousands of baby quail.  But this year our shop burned to the ground along with all of our equipment.  We thought the insurance company would at least pay us for the building and the equipment in it. WRONG.  They are trying to say it is a business, and that there isn't even policys available that covers gamebirds. Some business , our feed bill was in the thousands, and I think we may have sold a couple of hundred dollars worth of birds.  It not like I expected them to cover the birds, but now they are not going to even pay us for the building.
Has anyone else ran into this problem?  Does anyone have insurance coverage on their equipment?

This isn't really an answer to the question you asked, but may be helpful.  Contact OK state insurance commissioner, or what ever agency licenses underwriters.  Often just a note from them, inquiring about their position regarding your claim will incourage them to reevaluate their options!

How unfortunate... Good luck in getting a little compensation for your losses. I can't even imagine going through that. Dealing with a truck that crashed into my house was enough. (Yeah, and the guy died, in our front yard, we came home and found the whole situation....  s176)... ANyhow, best of luck!

Insurance companies normally only cover the dwelling in which you live in, on that particular property. Unless you carry a rider to include all other buildings on your property you are S.O.L.

If you are a legit business, meaning you have a licensed business, you can usually get insurance coverage for the building and its content.
