GQF incubator vents

Hello ALL, I been having problems with my hatches and someone told me since I had the vents shut off back in the winter I was doing more harm than good. I thought I was helping them get warmer since I moved them around Christmas time to another building I shut them off. I'd set all of my pheasant eggs in one incubator and someone mentioned to me about them being shut off just cracked I was boiling them. I cracked them open and they all looked drowned which I THOUGHT was too much humidity (80% I try to do). I opened the vents up as I shut down my pheasants and had a few eggs left here and there so I set them and THEY HATCHED. I went all spring setting 250-300 eggs a week not hatching  but maybe 5 TOTAL. I thought about starting them up again but is it worth it? How far do I need the vent opened up  in the bad. the temps gotta be wrong as my hatches are taking a week longer than supposed to but I'm getting great hatches now. I've got them opened up 1/2 way is it right? or what do I need to do with them? I've got trigeminal neuralga(brain nerve pain damage) as well as fibromyalga I been having treatments since I found out back in march so please bear with my typing and sentances not being punctuated correctly. TL , I have mine 1/2 to 3/4 open through the incubating and close the top one to 1/2 and the bottom one to 1/4 open . It`s been working good for me but you can get really high humidity , Sometimes to much.. Now i been leaving the holes alone at 1/2 top and bottom and thats been working also through the inc and hatching.. I also noticed when i bought a dig temp and hydr and put the sensor on the bottom tray that my readings were dif from the gauges on the side of the inc.  I go off the dig temp and my hatches are alot better.. Alot to do with the temp & hum. outside the inc has alot to do with the hatch also . Is it the same temp night and day ..hum high low  so on.  But no matter what don`t have the holes shut completely that chokes the egg from air and they need air circulation through

Thanks, ALOT I've gpt a big differance in the temps also but will be fixing that problem very soon. Like I said I was using the evnts to hold in the heat not thinking about them needing fresh air. Thanks, and GOD BLESS, TL
