Title: criteria for Bobwhite to start laying
Post by: jimmyn on February 21, 2010, 11:20:02 AM
My bobwhite are in pairs and trios. They get 12 hours light each day. Temp is always 80 in the day and down to 65 at night. They are all older the 1 year. Should I put a light with them at night. If so what is the best method. Thanks

jimmyn They need at lease 16 hours of daylight for them to lay. If you have 12 hours of natural daylight then give them 4 more hours of light as it gets dark with a regular light.  ty2 Jim

I have read that the extra light supplied to induce laying should be "whiter" like fluorescent bulbs instead of "redder" like standard incandescent bulbs.  Any truth to this?  Can you induce laying with regular old incandescent bulbs or do you need fluorescent?
