Generally, after the second molt they'll have their adult colors.

Depending on the species (you didn't mention any) they'll have colors this year, but after the following spring/summer molt, the full adult colors will come in.

Thanks Reeves, sorry they are ringnecks. lookin like I have 3 males and 2 females. Thought at first they were all males due to bumps on their legs for spurs, however 3 have the start of spurs and 2 still have little bumps, and they are starting to get that pretty coloring around their necks...Thanks again..Russ

This has been my first year raising pheasants...I was first able to distinguish sex by the eyes in mine....they were about 6 weeks old when the red patch started getting its color, we identified all but one correctly this way. @ about 10-11 weeks old we could really see the feather coloring as means to determine, by that time though the eye patches  of the males were bright red.
