I have a 100 or so 3 day old quail. This morning I found 3 dead with the top beak missing and have noticed they also seem to have slight bits of blood on whats left of their noses. I have searched through www.thepoultrysite.com/DiseaseInfo/Default  for anything that could be
causing this but have not found anything at all. I would assume a respiratory disease?  :( I will be re-sterilizing things - temp is fine and I
change the water 2x a day. I'm relatively new to raising quail so would appreciate any suggestions!

The other quail chicks are pecking them. You need to give them more space, and remove any chicks that have blood on them, as the others will keep pecking them. Use a red bulb to keep the pecking down also.

Good Luck

Thanks for the suggestion. I am using red bulbs and have hatched
numerous other hatches in the same brooder, the chicks have plenty
of room and I have never had this problem. Any further ideas?

I'll get a "hot" batch of chicks from time to time. Same parents, same incubator, same brooder. One batch sitting around holding wings and singing campfire songs....The next batch goes out of their way to try to eat each other.
I just keep an eye on them and when I notice pecking, I begin placing grass/straw/weeds in the brooder to give them something else to peck on.

HI
BOTH FARGO AND STEWAW HAVE GIVEN YOU GOOD INFO. AND I AGREE WITH BOTH OF THEM. ONCE THEY START PICKING ON A CHICK THEY DONT STOP. I HAVE USED RED, WHITE AND BLUE BULBS IN MY BROODERS AND I LIKE THE BLUE THE BEST.
