I am new to raising quail and wish to raise some for meat.
What is better to raise for the table?
Bobwhites or Cortunix quails?
I am leaning towards the jumbo cortunix for they eggs.
Seems like no one wants to answer you so I'll take a stab at it. There are lots of opinions on this one, but to me the best to raise for meat is Coturnix. They grow off at about 8 weeks and are ready to butcher. Other species take longer and eat more. The Coturnix is just more cost efficient for meat purposes. Some like the taste of bobwhite better, but I don't. I don't really see that much difference in taste anyway. I raise mine for meat and eggs and I like the cost savings. I sell my extras and it's just easier to recoup my investment with Coturnix also. If you plan your incubation and grow off process right, you can have fresh quail coming off all the time. Try to go with the Jumbo Browns or XLT's. They are bigger birds. I hope this helps.
