Title: Weevils in grower feed
Post by: tknight on September 20, 2010, 05:13:28 PM
Hope someone can help me with this.  I have a feed store in Texas. As we all know,  this time of year it is almost impossible to keep weevils completely under control.  I have always been told that they do not hurt the birds in any way,  but I have a customer that claims the weevils gave his quail a parasite and killed a bunch of them.  Getting the feed mill to swap the feed is not a problem as I told him, but I would like a definitive answer on if the bugs can indeed endanger the birds so that I can better serve my customers.  Thank you in advance for your help.

Not sure about quail as I am a newb.. But I have been feeding weevily feed to birds since I can remember. My mother always stored her feed in a huge wooden bin in the barn and the bottom of it never got cleaned out. You will have to ask a vet is my only suggestion.
