Eeeeew, Yuck, that's disgusting.

Unless you've ever smelled the alternative (the stench of a rotting horse carcass, carried by a warm summer breeze.  Now that I got that out of the way, it will save those who have no clue what life is like off the pavement, the trouble of posting their whines.

For those who don't read every post, in every category, this subject came up in "Rising Feed Prices".

I did a search to try to determine whether the ban on horse processing was Federal, or at the state level.  It seems it was both, although the Feds stuck it to us from behind (as usual).

I haven't owned a horse for 15 years, or more.  I've never tasted it (unless it was in a taco, somewhere).  I don't care to.  Among other things, I have eaten Opossum, Raccoon, and Prairie Dog.  I don't care what others eat.

The real problem is over-reaching government.  How big a leap is it from a cute pony to a pretty Pheasant.  "Couldn't happen here", right?

Criminal Law. Prohibition on Slaughter
of Horses and Sale of Horsemeat for
Human Consumption. Initiative Statute.

  Did you get that?  Criminal

The great, Liberal, tolerant, Pro-Choice, People's Socialist Republic of Kalifornica has criminalized the "thought of, or intent to" or inadvertent facilitation of feeding diverse cultures the protein source of their choice.

Official Title and Summary prepared by the Attorney General
Full Text of
Proposed Law   CRIMINAL LAW. PROHIBITION ON SLAUGHTER
OF HORSES AND SALE OF HORSEMEAT FOR
HUMAN CONSUMPTION. INITIATIVE STATUTE.
Prohibits any person from possessing, transferring, receiving or holding any horse, pony, burro or mule with intent to kill it or have it killed, where the person knows or should know that any part of the animal will be used for human consumption. Provides that a violation constitutes a felony offense.
Also adds a provision making the sale of horsemeat for human consumption a misdemeanor offense, with subsequent violations punished as felonies.

By felonizing anyone involved in such acts, the Government removes the ability of the people to vote against laws, and agents with whom they disagree.  And prohibits the God given, and Constitutionally protected Right to own weapons with which to overthrow said oppressive government.

Summary of Legislative Analyst's
Estimate of Net State and Local Government Fiscal Impact:
The measure could result in some increased law enforcement and incarceration costs at both the state and local level. These costs probably would be minor, if any.    I bet they tack this onto every piece of crap they try to force down the citizen's throat.

And from Cox News service, 2005:

"Retail cuts of horse are similar to those of beef. The meat is leaner, slightly sweeter in taste, with a flavor somewhat between that of beef and venison," according to an U.S. Agriculture Department assessment. "The meat is higher in protein and lower and fat" than beef.
"The most popular cuts of horse meat come from the hindquarters – tenderloin, sirloin, filet steak, rump steak and rib," said the Agriculture Department publication for consumers.

  Slider had the right idea!

Proponents and opponents agreed that very few Americans eat horse meat.

So, only foreigners will go hungry, that's OK

The House bill to effectively ban horse slaughter was authored by Rep. John Sweeney, R-N.Y. (Now there's a big surprise)!

Aug. 2007, House of NON Representatives used back door approach (that's where they stick it to us, the most often).  They pulled Inspections of horse meat.  I guess I had heard that somewhere.

During my search and head scratching, I remembered hearing that the last horse processor (in Illinois) had been closed down.  I still haven't found where the Federal bills became law, but I believe it happened.  Doesn't matter much, there is no processing possible in the country, whether done by state, or Feds.  Much of the propaganda was perposefully vague, it may actually apply to processing for pet food, as well, adding even more pain and suffering.

I don't think the feds ever got it signed into law, at least I haven't found it. There are state laws on the books.

s47  It's bad enough that everyone is scrapping all kinds of smaller farm equipment that is usable, just  for a quick fix, now you guys are talking about eating it too!!  That's down right dispickable!   :x   Where will it stop?   :-|

" ANT PICKY"

You got an ant problem down there, slippery?

There is a thread around here somewhere about fire ant problems.

Major...there is a Fire Ant mound every 10 feet in any direction....That is why we do not have wild quail anymore. And the Louisiana Wildlife and Fishiers will not do any thing about it or Land Management or Forestery....They just do not care....
