Over a week ago while at a funeral my aviary was broken into by the village morons & they released my bobwhite covey. I've slowly recovered about 20 birds (caught a lone hen in a garden this morning), but none have returned on there own. I ready some where that you can use aniseed oil to attract pheasants to an area ..... does anyone know if this would work with quail & if so how exactly do I use it?

Thanks for your help

Suz

Sorry for what the morons have done to you and your birds. If you want to catch the other bird, you should build a recovering cage and place a Bobwhite pair in it.

About the morons, if it's not dangerous for your animals or kids, use horse electric fence and put it at 4'' from the ground, they won't come back

Smith and Wesson doesn't do much business over there.  Even Webley doesn't have much of a market outside of their military, and the few police "allowed" to carry.

Protecting ones self, family, and property in a Socialist country is not all that easy.  I asked her about that, apparently to merely possess an air rifle requires some 20 rolls of red tape.

We are quite likely to have first hand experience with that after Inauguration day next January.

I guess that takes care of the first ammendment.  They'll find a way to nullify the 9th, and 10th, soon.

You might have to plant it, and wait.

We used it as a fish attractant  back when I was a kid.  We put the oil on bait, or lures.  You might try the oil on plant leaves, but don't be surprised if all you get is catfish!  Other birds calling would probably work better, try a second juvenile male call bird, in a separate cage, some 20-30 yards from your call back cage, to increase calling.

I love the sentiment , but unfortunately there is no trespassing law in Scotland ..... which basically means that if I left my door open and someone wandered into my house without causing damage or harm to anyone or anything in it ... my only rights would be to ask said person to leave or get the police to move them on with a caution.

A few years back my mum had left the kitchen window open so her cat could get in at night. A burglar used the window to get into the house .... my dad was woken and went to see why the dogs were making such a fuss ... he found the guy about wetting his self when the dogs who didn't mind letting him in wouldn't let him leave ... unfortunately Rosco dad's German shepherd had bitten the burglars leg .... the police were called ... the burglar got a fine & my dad was taken to court to prove that Rosco wasn't a dangerous dog ???

Anyway .. I've looked into buying an air rifle for 'pest control' but all the rules & regulations is a nightmare but it do-able .... the one problem is If I fired it a moron who was trying to get to my bird ... I would be arrested for the least assault, if I left a pellet in him it would be ABH - actual bodily harm .... basically I'm not allowed to defend property or possessions and only allowed to use 'reasonable force' to protect myself or family if I feel our lives are in danger .... Its crazy considering older people wont venture out in an evening for the fear of being attacked by gangs of out of control teenagers/morons.

Moan over & back to the missing bob's ... I'll get onto building a second recall cage this morning ... its pouring with rain here so pampered bob's haven't ventured out of the shed  ::) & I've ordered aniseed oil, will give it a go incase it works ... don't think theres any catfish in the burn but might get a few trout for the tea

I agree...shoot first and ask questions later......survivors will be shot again and a again....

If we don't all band together about our rights to have guns, we will be losing them soon and be in the same boat as Suz.  Down here in New Orleans, LA after hurricane Katrina the police illegally went house to house confiscating guns.  The NRA is currently suing and the people here are ticked off to say the least.

Obama recently introduced a bill in Congress that is currently in the Senate that would allow the United Nations to take our guns with UN troops!  It has been called the Great Gun Grab!  Go figure!   s176

I've had a similar event like you Suz658, at my cousins wedding i released a few of my white doves and cinnamon ringneck doves a couple years ago. The church was only a block from my house where i released them and later that day i went to put food out for them in a few small cages.  I noticed to my surprise that they all came back, i would notice them high in the trees in my backyard cooing while i was throwing the birdseed across the lawn to attract them and get their attention. The brown ones all returned except for the white ones, dont know why though.
