Title: Quail & pheasant in same flight pen
Post by: BravoSpinone on August 13, 2009, 10:02:32 AM
I have 12 x 60 ft flight pen with 400 quail.  Would it be a problem to add one or two pheasants?

I have no experience with any quail other than Bobwhites, and I'd bet ($$$) that you'll have 2 dead pheasants.

You will probably end up with some very beat up if not dead pheasants

b3  I would say...don't try this EVEN if you Can watch them all day!

When I first started raisinf quail  I mixed some BW of  diffrent ages.  Same breed even.  They seemed ok.  Made some wierd noised when I first put them together.  I watched them for quite a while, until they settled down.  I thought everything would be ok.  Wentn out the next morning.  Total masacre of the younger ones.  Learned a hard lesson that time. s47

bobs are pretty agressive.  I am not a large scale breeder, but I do have a small covey in my peacock pen which is about 700 s.f. with a 100 sq foot house on one end.  I have had my trio of pea fowl, 8 bobwhites and extra male pheasants in it for a couple of years.  Yesterday, I introduced 6 new pheasants and the bobs chased them around for several hours.  Today I noticed that the new pheasants had been accepted and were being left alone.    In your case with several hundred bobs I would bet that the pheasants would not have a chance.
