Hello,
I've just built my own incubator using a cardboard box and a lamp
and i heard that if the light bulb is white then the chick will eat each other when they hatch is that true?
now what is the correct temperatures for button quail eggs and how long should they be in there for?
please help! s85

White light is ok for incubator temp needs to be 101.5 for still air

As jc says, Yes light bulb will work. I would stay away from cardboard box though. It may not hold temp or humidity well. I would think it could be a fire hazard too. Also, may get soggy if humidty soaks into it. Can use foam ice cooler or wood.

And it is not true that chicks will eat each other with a white incubator light. I think you mean during brooding? A dim light, red, blue will prevent pecking of each other. I personally never had a bad pecking issues with a white bulb.

do a search for homemade incubator. there are a few posted.
