The first thing that me and my other 2 buddies figured was fuel.

Have a place in the panhandle for Bobs. It doesn't have Huns or Sharptails.

Larry, I have a friend who trains in Montana every year.  He says there are almost no birds there this year after a better then great year last year.  He's finding a dozen birds per day, in place of the hundreds he found daily, last year.

He is in region 7, in the Miles City area.  The official forcast is for good to very good numbers, there.  Part of the problem is, they take surveys early, not allowing for possible poor hatch, or survival rates.  You may want to talk to someone you trust, who is on the ground there, now.

Kansas Prairie Chicken Season opens in 8 days 15 hours and 8 minutes (but who's counting).  I'll be out scouting with 6 dogs in the next few days.  No Huns, here, I think Nebraska has some, and their Prairie Chicken/Sharptail season opens the 13th, they have more Chickens than Kansas has in most counties.

Thanks man
We have a friend that lives there .Opening day not many birds but it was raining on him. The second day had lots of birds.
There will be 3 of us firemen in one group with 8 dogs hunting far south and another group of my buddies starting up north, they are meeting up with Nolan Huffman to pick up his 2 dogs and hunt together. We will be talking to see where we need to go.
Those bird counts can be misleading.
The bird count for all of Hall Co in the TX panhandle is done on our ranch of 13000 acres.

Just got back lots of sharptails not many Huns.
Locals said heavy rains and some hail several weeks after hatch lead to high chick death rate. Sharpe's re set Huns didn't.
4 of us start hunting at 9 and have limit of sharps by 11.
pictures coming when daughter comes to see me and show how to do it.

I guess you heard about N.L.B. passing.

Did you meet Dave Jones, up there?  He had hunted that general area and found pretty fair numbers, there.

Thanks man

Inform me about N.L.B.
I was at Dave's place in Crossplains a month before the trip.
We were doing snake school and putting microchips in some dogs.
Dave went the week before we do.
Did meet up with Nolan Huffman for a day
He had to put buddy down this year.

Sorry I didn't get back to you, sooner.  NLB=Nolan's Last Bullet =Buddy

I've seen good Quail numbers in Kansas during early chicken season, and yesterday's afternoon Pheasant hunt.  Don't waste your time hunting S.W. Kansas for Pheasant this year, unless you have friends who swear they have one of the few hot spots.  Greeley County, Southeast to Meade County, gives you a triangle to avoid.  Seventy-Five miles outside that triangle is generally great, though the temperatures have been nearly as high as Texas (highs 70-80), but relief is coming Thursday.
