If in future I use my incubator, if the hen doesnt sit of course...when the eggs hatch in the incubator, how long should I keep the chicks in it before moving to the brooder?

I move mine from hatcher at 24 hours after hatching if they are all good and dry.

Yes they hatched. I got 18 chicks out of the 26 eggs I had, witch I thought was pritty good for my first time. I am putting 42 in the hatcher tomarrow. :xing: I hope your eggs hatch out for you! They are just so tiny and cute, I think they look like little bumble bees,LOL. I keep my chicks in the incubator about 24 hours to.

VERY BAD NEWS! My hen has given up the nest after days!! She was sitting on 12 eggs. Why could that be?

lack of interest, they get bored of waiting so they just abandon the nest

Oh to bad. I am letting my hen sit on a few right now. I have about 20 more hatched out in the incubator right now and more on the way. You should get an incubator and try hatching some your self.

As I am a novice on this, please forgive my ignorance.
I have now removed 12 eggs from the quails, she sat on then 11 days, they have been 'cold' for 7 days now, can i still incubate or is it too late with this batch?
Thanks everyone, I am really disappointed they didnt hatch.

i dont know about if you can still hatch them or not i would say no because they were already in the incubation process so since they have been out so many days they are probably dead but im not sure about that one, but 11 days wasn't near enough days for them to incubate so the hen would have have stuck to the nest alot longer than that for them to hatch so dont be disappointed they hadnt hatched yet because they had along ways to go still

I was told if they get worm and then cold and then worm again that even if they do hatch it can cause big problems with the baby's.

Seven days 'cold' after eleven days of incubation=deader than dead.  I'd crack them open to check on fertility, but after seven days they may just be stinky, rotten mush.

I was told to keep them at 99% for the first week and then drop 5% every week after that till you reach the temp of the room or were ever you are keeping them and then you anly need it at night for a while.

If I keep the chicks in the incubator for 24 hours after they hatch, do I need to supply food and water during this period?
Is it imperative that I place a rubber mat in the base of the brooder. Thanks guys.
