How long to start laying?

My quails lived outside until I bought them yesterday...We live in new england and with autumn, the light is getting less and less outside.
Now my quails are indoors with good light; we have starter game bird crumble, a bird "nestling" treat food, and oyster shell powder.
Since my birds are beginning a good laying schedule with 16+ hours of light per day, when can we expect to see our first egg?
Also, do females lay eggs even without males present?

I have two Japanese Quails between 4 and 8 months old. I'm not positive on the gender of either, but I told the seller I wanted a male & a female.

The female will lay with or without a male. Without a male, the eggs will be infertile and unhatchable.
Japanese quail are at their prime at 4 months, beyond their prime at 8 months. A change of scenery can easily set them off laying for a week or two.
